Anarkik3D — develops software applications using virtual 3D touch, with a haptic device taking the place of the standard mouse to provide more natural and familiar 3D interactions. A team from Edinburgh Hacklab are taking part in the Edinburgh Canal Festival Raft Race this Saturday (9th July). Preperations have been taking place throught the week including designing the raft and sourcing materials. The raft racing starts at Lemmington Bridge, Union Canal around 12.30pm if you fancy coming to watch. It should be fun whatever happens!

Organised by Edinburgh Festivals Innovation Lab, the first Culture Hack Scotland event took place on 6/7 May. It brought together 50 developers & designers and 50 arts professionals for 24 hours of hacking and making. Stephen brought his lathe in to the lab so we could work on fabricating the “hot end” of a RepRap 3D printer, the part which melts and extrudes the plastic. Here’s the machine from March’s RepRap build party, still lacking its extruder but joining our collection of robotic devices writing ‘hacklab’ at the lab. The machine belongs to Edinburgh University, but we’re helping to get it up and running so it can print a set of parts for the Hacklab’s own RepRap Mendel.
